Turkish state broadcaster TRT has removed veteran commentator Murat Ekrem Çimen from its World Cup coverage after he repeatedly confused Iran and New Zealand during their Group G draw. The on-air errors prompted a public apology and internal investigation. Despite support from colleagues, Çimen has been suspended from all remaining tournament broadcasts pending the outcome of TRT’s review.
