A severe drought in Iraq in 2022 unexpectedly revealed a 3,400-year-old Bronze Age city submerged in the Mosul Dam. Archaeologists discovered a palace, fortifications, and a massive storage complex, believed to be the Mittani Empire settlement of Zakhiku. Remarkably, jars containing over a hundred cuneiform tablets, preserved from an earthquake centuries ago, were also found, offering insights into this lost civilization before the waters reclaimed the site.
