Iran’s football team landed at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday ahead of their FIFA World Cup 2026 opener against New Zealand. The squad flew in from Tijuana, Mexico, where they had relocated following US-Israel strikes on Iran in February. Their arrival coincided with the announcement of a US-Iran peace deal, to be signed in Switzerland on Friday. The Group G clash on Monday marks the first time in World Cup history that a host nation has faced a country it is at war with.
