The zipper began as a clunky solution for heavy shoes, invented by Whitcomb Judson. His early designs were unreliable. Electrical engineer Gideon Sundback later perfected the design, making it stable and efficient. The B.F. Goodrich Company named it ‘zipper’ due to its sound. Initially used on rugged items, it eventually transformed clothing closures worldwide.
