When talking about venomous snakes in India, one invariably gets to talk about the “Big Four,” which comprise the Indian cobra, common krait, Russell’s viper, and saw-scaled viper. These snakes account for most of the bites and are quite well studied from a scientific point of view. But there are also other venomous snakes in India whose venom is not well-studied and Pope’s pit viper happens to be one of them. This green snake is endemic to the forests of Northeast India.
