California has returned 136 acres of Mendocino County coast to Indigenous nations. State officials approved the transfer of Blues Beach and surrounding bluffs to Kai Poma. This marks the first time land managed by Caltrans has been returned to Indigenous Tribes. Kai Poma plans cultural and environmental studies for resource management. The land will be open to the public from sunrise to sunset.
