A shopkeeper and a cigarette giant were fined Rs 10 lakh for overcharging a lawyer Rs 20 on a cigarette packet. The Aligarh Consumer Commission ruled that companies cannot evade responsibility for inflated prices, calling it ‘hidden loot’. The duo must refund the excess amount with interest and pay compensation.
